Moderna Wins EU Contract to Supply RSV Vaccine to Six Countries

Moderna (NASDAQ: MRNA) has secured a European Commission framework contract to supply its RSV vaccine, mRESVIA, to six participating countries, giving them access to as many as 24 million doses over up to four years.

The European Commission said the joint procurement framework contract was signed at the request of six countries and carries no minimum purchase obligation. Actual volumes will depend on national orders rather than a fixed commitment, but the arrangement gives participating states a common route to buy doses ahead of future winter respiratory virus seasons.

The six countries are Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and Portugal. The Commission said the contract is intended to strengthen preparedness ahead of the 2026-2027 winter season.

mRESVIA is Moderna's mRNA-based RSV vaccine, authorized in the European Union to protect adults against RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease. The Commission said it helps protect against lung diseases including bronchitis and pneumonia caused by RSV in adults. Moderna said the product is supplied in a ready-to-use, single-dose pre-filled syringe.

The deal extends Moderna's position with European public health authorities beyond pandemic-era procurement. Moderna's marketed products remain concentrated in vaccines, with Spikevax and mNEXSPIKE in COVID-19 and mRESVIA in RSV. A broader RSV rollout in Europe would support the company's effort to diversify revenue as COVID vaccine demand has normalized from peak pandemic levels.

The framework structure limits visibility on near-term sales. The Commission did not disclose pricing, total contract value or any country-level purchase plans. Without minimum volume commitments, the figure of 24 million doses represents the upper bound of potential supply rather than contracted revenue.

The agreement was executed under the EU's Joint Procurement Agreement, a mechanism that lets participating countries procure medical countermeasures on a voluntary basis. The Commission said 39 countries are signatories to that arrangement as of July 2026. The model has been used before for vaccines and other health-security products, including Moderna's COVID-19 supply agreements with the EU during the pandemic.

The RSV award points to continued alignment between Moderna and European health institutions including the Commission and HERA, the bloc's emergency preparedness authority. Centralized procurement can open several national markets through a single framework, even if final demand is determined country by country.

Moderna shares rose after the announcement in Thursday trading, according to market reporting.
